School of Molecular Diagnostics and Prophylactics focusses on cutting edge’ research on prevention, therapeutics as well as emerging molecular based diagnostics and detection tools against highly invasive pathogens depleting productivity of agriculturally important plants, animals and fishes. Projects are being conducted to map and score susceptible and resistant rice genotypes against blast disease. Molecular prophylactics based evaluation using TLR marker and metagenomics dependent tools and to study the role of Important immuno- nutraceuticals like, levan are carried out in challenge trials experiments on rohu (Labeo rohita) species. Moreover, sequencing based detection tools to unleash late maturity and recrudesce in magur (Clarias batrachus) is another mile stone research being undertaken to decode this age-old inherent problem. Delineating the role of novel nanoparticles as antimicrobials, nutraceuticals, delivery vehicles and overall, as a ‘nanomedicine’ has also been taken up and delineated. Phyto-synthesized copper oxide nanoparticle exhibits important role against pathogenic strains in rice and vegetables. Nano-composite hydrogel and its role in fish and animal system for healing topical wounds are also explored. Research on next-generation nanoparticles like quantum dots, carbon nanotubes mesoporous silica and graphene oxide and its role in agricultural disease management, nano sensors and liposome based drug/ nutrient delivery are in the progress.
